Did you know
Not all motor vehicle-related charges will be reported on a criminal report. In fact, most moving violations are not reported from courts and are only available through a search of the state DMV records. Depending on the county or state, only the most serious convictions related to motor vehicles are reported under criminal searches.
Recommended for
A Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) search is recommended for applicants who would be in a position driving a company provided vehicle, chauffeuring, entertaining clients, driving on company time, or operating machinery. Info Cubic can also assist with any required annual MVR audits.
Sources
Individual State’s Department or Bureau of Motor Vehicles
Turnaround Time
2 - 4 hours; however, some states such as Alaska may take up to 24 hours
Information Required
- Applicant Information – Name and date of birth
- Applicant Driver’s License Information (number and state of issuance)
- Applicant AKA – Additional names under which an applicant’s record might be filed (maiden names, nicknames, etc.)
Results Guidelines
The MVR search identifies the name, license issue and expiration date, license status, license number, license type, endorsements, restrictions, driving violations, and suspensions. Additionally, it can locate felony/misdemeanor convictions related to accidents or other driving violations (but is not a replacement for a comprehensive criminal search). Consultation with qualified legal counsel is recommended for all employment law matters.

FAQ
Q: Are all MVR results instant?
A: No. Some states, such as Alaska, Arkansas and Missouri, have daily cut off times that must be met in order to have same-day results.
Q: The MVR states that the driver had a violation; however, I am not seeing any mention of this violation in any of the criminal searches on my order. Why?
A: There are many reasons why a violation may appear on the driver’s license but not elsewhere on your report. The violation may have been a minor traffic charge, which (barring special circumstances, such as jail time or an open warrant associated with the charge), we do not report in a standard criminal search. The violation may have been reported to the DMV but not taken to court/pursued, or perhaps it did not result in a conviction or was later dismissed. Additionally, it is not always possible to tell in which county the violation occurred: you may not be running the correct location.
Q: I am looking for something specific that is not showing up on the MVR. Can I obtain more information?
A: Unfortunately, MVRs come directly from the DMV, so all of the information that is available is provided. DMVs will generally not provide information other than what is on the report. We will do our best to provide clarification on information included in the MVR, but will likely not be able to obtain additional information.
Q: Results say ‘driver not found’. What does this mean?
A: Either the name, date of birth, or driver’s license number are incorrect. Collect a photocopy of the actual driver’s license for cross examination. The information submitted to the DMV must match the license exactly.
