New Rules in Arizona Impact Background Checks
Posted: May 30, 2014
The Pima County Justice Court in Arizona has implemented a strict five year retention rule for all criminal misdemeanor, or lower level, records. In addition, they will destroy more than 30 years-worth of records, impacting cases occurring before 2009.
Moving forward, the Pima County Justice Court will only keep criminal misdemeanor records for five years with some exceptions: domestic violence and DUI cases will be retained for seven years. Any active cases will be available for public access.
This change will affect all searches in Pima County. Because older records will no longer exist, rechecks out of Pima County may no longer yield the same information as their previous report.
